Prompt: Write whatever you normally write about, and weave in a book quote, film quote, or song lyric that’s been sticking with you this week.

Answer: I just started my new job as a travel coordinator on the Queen Latifah show. My job’s main purpose is to assist my boss, our show’s travel manager, and making sure all of our guest’s car service, hotels, flights and all things travel related are taken care of. It is my duty to make sure that the manager’s job does not become too overwhelming and if it does, then make the effort to relieve her of some stress. That being said, we are the only two people in this department and so we have to rely on each other to make sure everything is proper and functional. The reason I bring up my job is that in the scope of the show, we are just one small department, of many, who wants this show to be a success.

When I ran cross country in high school, my coach provided my team with the following quote: “For the strength of the pack is the wolf and for the strength of the wolf is the pack” – Rudyard Kipling. In sports you rely on your teammates to push you and motivate you to achieve your best results. I feel as if this quote can easily translate to the work environment as well. As a new team, we have to be there for one another and to constantly assist and troubleshoot any issues that may come up. One department may be reliant on another for information and if communication is not happening, then issues may arise. We all want to succeed. We all want to be proud of our accomplishments and be acknowledged for the work we put into a show. And at the same time, we should want to be supportive of one another through thick and thin.

So when you are at your workplace or in a sporting event or any environment where you have to depend on another person, make sure you realize that your individuality is valued and means a lot to the group but at the same time, you need the support of others and not be afraid to ask for it, because they will be there for you.
